The Weapons Video and New Control Scheme
Aug 6th

Check out our new video! So we decided to drop mouse control for aiming. This was largely a balancing issue: giving the player full 360 degree control and the agility of the mouse cursor allowed for too much aim abuse and bullet spamming, so we decided to adjust the weapons axle to allow for different angles of shooting per weapon. From a balancing perspective, it makes all the difference in how the game plays. You can see how switching works in the video. Mainly we highlight some of the weapons you’ll come across. There are a lot of cool ones we hope you’ll enjoy taking a gander at. In addition to that, we have a few snippets of new environments we haven’t shown yet, and maybe even more importantly we show off some cool ways you can kill off enemies. Enemies will blow up in special ways according to the type of weapon you use. While admittedly a little subtle, it adds a pinch of depth to killing off baddies and it makes your foes feel like tangible entities that are actually reacting to your weapons. We have a few different kinds of interactions in place currently: standard explosion, electrical power down, bursting into flame, ejection seats, and slicing enemies in half. Out system also has flexibility to allow for “special” deaths to occur, for instance, with the police cars, you’ll notice some of them spin out when they die, while others might veer off course and crash into the environment. Alternatively, the cars can also just get blown into the air. It’s pretty fun, right?
If you dig what we’re doing, please help us get the word out by retweeting, sharing us on Facebook, posting on message boards, or just telling your friends next time you see them. I hope you’ll help us out, because our success hinges on you. We’re such a small outfit, that if we can’t get noticed among bigger titles our humble dev team will fail, so I hope you’ll join us in spreading the word. And a special thanks to everyone that already has! We love you guys!
Our team is super excited to be showing new stuff, and we still have quite a bit we haven’t revealed yet so stay tuned. And let us know what you think! Don’t be a stranger! We won’t bite too hard!

September 2011 Alpha Video!!
Sep 1st
Our latest video is now online! What do you think?
We’re definitely not a bullet hell shmup. That, and we let you sacrifice agility to shoot in any direction which makes our gameplay a little different from traditional shmups. Our exact genre is more arcade or action-ish in nature, I suppose. We still don’t have a 3D modeler yet but we are actively looking, so please forgive our 3D stuff right now. The video is still in alpha and there is undoubtedly a few rough edges and hiccups but we hope you’ll forgive us! We demonstrate a few different weapons, show off some explosions, and how our levels are generally set up. We’re really excited to keep working on this and we hope you’ll follow our progress! Also, if you’re digging what we do, please tell your friends that are into this kind of stuff!
Oh yeah, make sure to watch the video in HD.

We have alpha footage ladies and gentlemen! And also, this occasion marks our first blog post to include video!
The video is still an alpha, so please have mercy on us at this point. It’s not perfect (and we don’t have an official 3D modeler yet), but it shows you the style we’re going for. We have code, gameplay, music, sound effects, and 2D art/animation all accounted for and actively demonstrated in the video. With that said, we have a lot of stuff almost finished and waiting in the wings that we haven’t shown yet including a few different guns and the enemy armor system.
Heaven Variant is fashioned after old school shmups, except with the UDK it gives us so many more toys to play with that older games (and even more recent ones) just don’t have and we’re really looking forward to showing everyone what we come up with.
