So we’ve shown you all about how Stardust Vanguards is about epic space battles with tons of units, but one thing we haven’t really talked about is Space Ball mode. The game mode basically plays as a capture the flag style soccer match. So instead of goals like in a normal soccer game, you return the ball to your base. Easy right? Sure it’s a bit of a departure from the normal game, but it is crazy intense fun. The players whack the space ball and from there physics will take over. It’ll bounce around off the stages obstacles planning the perfect angle to knock the ball back into your base! The first to 10 points win. This mode works best in a 2v2 battle, since you can have one player acting as defense and another as offense, so there are a quite a few strategies that can bubble to the surface. And of course, you’ll be able to summon your reinforcements to keep the heat on your enemies, though they’ll most likely sacrifice themselves once the space ball to crashes right through them.
In team games, teams bases will consolidate into a single base, but in a four player free for all game there will be four bases. Admittedly, this gets crazy since directing the ball back to your base can become very tricky with four bases on the field. You’ll likely bump the ball into your opponents base a few times accidentally, but hey the option is there for you.
Beyond that, the stages for Space Ball mode are separate from our standard battle arenas. We designate these levels as “stadiums” and once you play through them, you’ll be able to play Space Ball in any of the battle arenas. And of course, conversely, you’ll be able to use Stadiums for regular deathmatch games once that happens too.
In the video, the two players are just playing around without competing too intensely just to show you how the physics of the ball work. This mode was a big hit among testers! Major props to our programmer Simon as he came up with the idea for this mode! And make sure to follow him on Twitter!
And again, we want to extend our major thanks to everyone that helped us get greenlit on Steam last month. We really appreciate your support!
